Week 6
It's been a bit of a funny week, to be honest. After the euphoria & emotion of dipping below 90kg last week, and then the lycra photo, things felt a bit surreal this week.
Part of it was that I've got into such a routine for getting through the required 3.2 litres each day that when I had to stretch it out for longer to avoid being caught short while out and about, it felt like I wasn't drinking enough. I was, but somehow things just felt a bit off. Hoping to get back into the rhythm this week.
The new menu came through on Tuesday, and shows a marked reduction in carbs, and also introduces 2 days of fasting until lunch! Apologies in advance for anyone who gets their head bitten off during these hangry mornings - though I won't tell you when they are, so you can see if you can spot the difference! Less rice, but introducing cauliflower / broccoli rice. More lentils, a bit more dairy - and 2 evenings of soup! I also like the look of the "courgetti bol" - probably because it also includes parmesan! I'm also looking forward to incorporating pickles & sauerkraut & kimchi into some meals - though not sure the family is quite as keen!
Saturday we had a bit of a special occasion meal where we had a Brazilian tasting menu from Gautier, which is an excellent restaurant in Soho. The twist was that we had it delivered to us at home & had to finish the preparations ourselves. The other twist - everything was vegan! I convinced myself that it wasn't cheating *that* badly, and it was delicious too - small portions, very healthy, only one of the dishes with sugar - so I think I got away with it this time! However, these are very much the exceptions rather than the rule!
One of the interesting things that people have said in response to my posts & my weight loss so far is that I must be feeling so much better. It's interesting because the truth is that I didn't feel particularly bad beforehand, so it's hard to say so far. I've been overweight for so long that I was just used to it. So physically, apart from the changing shape, I don't really feel that different yet. I imagine this will come in due course - at least I hope it will! Mentally however, I certainly feel better - for example, I'm not (as) disgusted when I catch sight of myself in a shop window when out exercising! People are being so supportive & encouraging that it's hard not to feel better about yourself!
So a bit of a weird week really, but we press on, and I'll get into the swing of the new menu very soon.
Exercise - 2 walks in my new trainers, as I'm nursing a bit of a creaky back, which the Osteo visit last weekend only seems to have made worse. And a fun if cold, wet & miserable bike ride in the rain yesterday - the universal truth of bike rides of course being that there's no such thing as the wrong weather for a bike ride, just the wrong clothes!
Here's some of the food:
Cod with Green Beans & Salad. Some cheeky pickles lurking under the leaves.
Lentil Soup - this was fantastic, and with the chicken added to the broth itself it became very much like a Canja, which is a Brazilian favourite. We'll be making this one again!
As it's half term, my son helped out with breakfast - he makes excellent scrambled eggs, which I had with smoked salmon & avocado.
PS If you got this far, you can see the video Vanusa took at last week's appointment here!
Great to see what brilliant progress you've made so far and will continue to make. I love zoodles, or courgetti, and along with cauli rice many meals have been transformed.
