Week 5
I'd been looking forward to this week with a mixture of trepidation & eager anticipation - because this was the week I was going back to see Vanusa to get weighed. We hid the scales some weeks ago at home, as I was weighing myself a bit too often. So I didn't really have any idea of my weight. I knew that I'd had a good start, and had stayed on plan. I knew that my trousers were baggier my bum did not look (as) big in lycra, shirts were staying tucked in longer...I was really hoping to have dropped below 90kg, but also knew that that was a big ask. I'd started at 98.2kg.
It's been a very hectic few weeks at work, getting ready for a big project go live, but this kept me distracted & not thinking too much about the appointment. I was looking forward to it though - seeing Vanusa face to face, getting weighed, seeing the progress.
I'd taken the day off so had been pottering around killing time until 5. After some chat came the moment of truth...took my kit off down to my shorts, got on the gadget, glanced down and saw something I hadn't seen for a very long time - a lower number on the front. An 8. I had to stay on the machine for a few mins while the other readings were done, and I scarcely dared look. I thought the numbers would settle and be back over 90. They didn't though.
At this point, there was an unexpected change in the atmospheric conditions in the room! I was choked up for a few minutes. I hadn't expected to be quite as emotional about it. I guess I've been focussed on following the plan & enjoying the process, and the small wins - like my heart rate monitor sliding down my belly - but seeing that number change was huge, and I suddenly started to realise that this was really happening. It was no longer hypothetical - it was working. I was actually & finally losing weight. 8.5kg in the first 5 weeks. Absolutely surreal!
Needless to say Gaby & Vanusa were as delighted as me. Vanusa had expected something like 5kg - so 8.5kg was above her expectations too. When we looked at the analysis, 7kg of body fat mass was gone, and the BMI, admittedly a somewhat problematic metric, had moved me from Obese to merely Overweight! 😂
8.5kg. That's hard to imagine, but pick up 9 bags of sugar and that's it, less half a pack. 9 bags of sugar I'd been carrying around for years, now gone - hopefully never to return.
At the end of the appointment, Vanusa wanted to do a little testimonial video, and I was a bit choked again. I know it's the biggest cliché in the book, but this process, if I keep going (spoiler alert - I will), will change my life. It already has. It's also changing Gaby's, who isn't being disturbed by an erupting Krakatoa next to her in bed any more! Transform360 is well-named.
Right, that's enough of the feelings! What about the grub? Well, the food this week has been good - I turned the dreaded Tuesday evening Aubergine & Courgette veg into a cracking ratatouille - kudos to Jamie Oliver, the balsamic vinegar & basil were excellent additions. Its "pairing" with a Persian spiced chicken recipe (tasty, hopefully tastier if I get the spice rub correct next time!) worked well.
The spicy cabbage came out of the locker again, with creme fraiche instead of marscapone this time, and was very yummy. I also enjoyed my omelette with spinach & mushrooms.
Exercise - 2 runs & and a couple of bike rides, as usual. I also had a visit to the Osteopath, who was *horrified* that I've been using a pair of trainers bought in a charideee shop & slightly too big! She sent me to a local running shop to get some properly fitted ones, which I did! But now we need to incorporate more exercise, including weights, so if anyone has any knocking about, gathering dust - let me know!
Thanks for reading, thanks for all the encouragement & love on FB & IG. Thanks.
Onwards!
Absolutely brilliant what you've managed to achieve in only a few weeks. The food you've been eating looks delicious, and as you eat less you'll not want to eat more, a win win situation .
ReplyDeleteThanks Kev, I'm surprising myself a bit with how much I'm able to stay focussed on this - I think the current situation of not being in an office is a huge help to be honest, as the temptation to graze just isn't there.
